What a Hoot! ;)

This is a little different to what I normally do so I'm hoping for some feedback on what you guys think,
Good OR bad! :)

Me & my sister are incredibly close.
Sometimes she drives me insane but we've been through everything together,
She's a best friend to me.

This was us last night (me on the right),
As you can see she got the good genes!

April did my hair for me and wanted to me show you my center parting!

So with her becoming 18,
As well as her presents I wanted to do her something really sentimental.
SO I drew her a picture,
She is crazy obsessed with owls!

Before we start;
I'll give you a background on my "art".
My Dad & Sister are incredibly artistic and absolutely brilliant at art,
Me? Not so much.
But I find it almost a form of therapy...
It chills me out, calms me down.
I can express whatever emotions I want to on that sheet of paper.
& I really enjoy it.

I can't draw anything "realistic", I can only ever draw illustrations.
Even if I TRY and draw something realistic it comes out really cartoony!
So I guess that's my forte.

This is the fine liner I use to go around all the lines,
Available for purchase at Paperchase,
I use the "S" which is an actual fine liner or the "F" which is more of a felt.
Then I use my watercolour crayons which are super amazing!
I blogged a few of them pictures here!

After completing the outline I began to colour little bits in.
Its quite a lengthy process as I wanted each bit a different colour!
With watercolours, is best to add a little, wait for it to dry then build it up :)
Make sure its fully dry though ;).

I put SO much attention into the head,
It was the main section that you're instantly grabbed by.

I was quite happy with how the eyes turned out,
I'm terrible at eyes!

In all honesty I only had two days to complete this so I got really lazy on the tummy,
In hindsight I would of paid much more attention to the painting here!

This is the finished picture!
I added the message to make it more authentic for April.
The body proportions aren't quite right,
The tummy needs to be a little rounder and this would make the owl so much cuter!
But I'm quite impressed for a first attempt at an owl :)

Let me know what you think anyway guys :)
